Exclamation Fake PM
I received a message today from someone called forumAdmin titled "Important message from the forum administration!" Then in the message it states:
A virus alert was noticed on your computer.
We highly recommend you to check your computer and perform online virus check at our site immediately.
----------------------------------------------------
Sincerely, Forum Administration www.scionxdforum.com.

It gives a url address that I am not going to post because I am sure it goes to one of those pages that acts like it is scanning your computer for viruses but is actually putting them on your computer. The message was sent to the following people : rage;Smithpspfan;katchkillah;Flipper;TrebleStauter

Please do not click on the link that in in the message. I am sure that ScionxD forums does not have its on site for you to check for viruses on your computer. Just getting the word out there.

-Eric S.

Just spam. Another way of trying to get you to click on their link. Don't click it!

I know this is a day late and a dollar short (it isn't really thread digging if it's the second from the top, is it?), but at another I forum I moderate at (which also uses VBulletin), user names with strings like "admin" and "moderator" are automatically forbidden from use by regular users.

The same applies to words like "owner", "operator", admin", "mod" (and similar words) in titles, to prevent a rogue member from imposing their so-called rules instead those of the wishes of the site owner.

It also prevents users with no posts from sending out Private Messages to others; but that's kind of flimsy security, unless you put all new member's first posts into a Moderation Queue, and then allow only moderators/administrators to approve each new posts. Once approved, they have free reign to act as regular members.
