Post up pics and pointers lol ima need all the help i can get.

Luc1f3r 05-29-2009 07:10 PM

hahah, its supper easy... if something looks like it should just pull out of the headliner (OS heandles, visor clips, stuff like that) then it does, just yank!

I'm gonna look at mine this weekend, TL.
I'll let you know what I think about it but should be bout the same as John's xB.

rhino74s 06-06-2009 07:30 PM

Got my headliner done today. Was pretty easy, material worked better than I thought.
No pics right now, till I finish painting the a,b,c pillars, dome lights, and find some black sun visors/hardware that work.
Also, went ahead and put dampening material on the roof while the headliner was down, man does that stuff make a difference!
Here's a teaser pic of the material though, black diamond stitch quilted nylon..... think inside of a nice jacket.

Cool!! can't wait to see it...

rhino74s 06-14-2009 11:10 AM

Minor setback..... used some generic headliner glue, thought I'd be safe since the material is soooo light, but it didn't hold. Redoing it this Tuesday though with 3M 90, has held headliners in the past with it. Pillars are painted and will be installed then too. No luck finding replacement sun visor hardware in black though. :emotions122:
Expect pics Wednesday!

So how does it work?

Do you just glue on the fabric to the existing headliner using 3M 90?

rhino74s 06-17-2009 07:07 AM

yeah, this time we took extra precautions though.
Took a wire brush and comb the headliner first, to rough the surface up a little more.
Spray glue on small sections at a time, starting with front, on both headliner and the material.
(Careful spraying the material, if it's light just spray a little so it doesn't soak through)
Give the glue a few minutes to get tacky.
Smooth material down from middle, working out to edges. Then glue next section.
Repeat until whole thing is covered.
I let mine bake in the sun for about an hour, after we finished, just to let the glue completely dry.

Rhino, I'm interested in doing the roof with dynamat... you used something like that under yours? Any helpful hints regarding the removal/installation of the headliner and installation of the dynamat? I'm also planning on doing the doors and the trunk area. I'd like to do the floor, but I'm nervous about tearing out the carpet.

Luc1f3r 08-07-2009 01:51 AM

mmmh, fuzzy headliner ftw!

Ryans is soooooooooo sexy!!!! i saw it in person last week!!!

YELOSUB 08-08-2009 10:16 AM

Damn Luci, I just watched your youtube vidoes...Crazy stuff! Car looks awesome....

greevedogg 09-19-2009 10:58 AM

hey luci,

if i want to add fatmat to my doors, how much sq ft should i order? or should i get the door kit as opposed to buying bulk roll? i don't need to go to the extreme as you did w the headliner and all....thx

bobolinko 09-25-2009 12:55 PM

Hey Luci,
Awesome Dude. I envy your tenacity in doing the FatMat install. I also did mine, but not as extensive as you. Check out the part under the rear storage area between the bumper and the tire storage well. There is a big area that the dampening has made a pretty good difference for me.

Luc1f3r 10-03-2009 05:19 PM

sorry i dont check this forum often, i got a bike and it takes more of my time then the xD lately. lol

Greeve - i prolly used 50sqft on the 4 doors. i would get atleast 50sqft start with 2 layers on the outter door skin, then 1 layer on the inner door skin, if you have some left, do another layer on the inner door skins or some in the cargo area over the exhaust.

bobo - under the rear storage? what is gthe rear storage? i dont have the spare tire cover in my car, if that is what you are referring to. and all that area was deadened with fat mat and expanding foam in all holes....

DeathMachine 10-11-2009 07:17 AM

Man, I need to do my headliner... Its the one thing I've been wanting to do since I bought the car and I haven't done it yet...

Luc1f3r 10-11-2009 06:54 PM

i should be in jax in a few weeks to get my bike painted if you want help...

xDevint 12-05-2009 07:59 AM

How do you pull out the lights to remove the headliner.

Luc1f3r 12-06-2009 12:55 AM

the front set literally yank them out.

the middle set, take off the clear cover. once you do you will see 2 "clips" on towards the front left and one towards the rear light, slide/pop the clips over and it will fall down. (i know that doesnt make sense at all, but once you take off the cover you will see what i mean.)

xDevint 12-06-2009 08:38 AM

Ok thanks Luci.

FlashGorden 01-13-2010 08:06 PM

I know it doesn't have directly to do with the headliner, but I noticed you upholstered the A-Pillars Luci. How hard was it to fix the fabric to them? I'd like to refinish the dash and doors with something other than the waffle print plastic. Once I have some time and the tools (digital camera), I'll do up some concepts in photoshop and post them for feed back.

x2cafn8dx 11-18-2010 06:09 PM

Tiki how did you do that? curious is all

also is there any worries about doing the headliner on a car with side airbags?

TIKI 11-18-2010 07:03 PM

2cafn8d, took healiner out and took old one off. Cut pattern out of firm foam and glued it to headliner. Covered with leather, could only glue 3inch square at a time.

No problem with side airbags. Not sure if they will come through leather if hit. Should though.

x2cafn8dx 11-19-2010 11:12 AM

You my friend.. have much more patience than I. LOL

YELOSUB 11-20-2010 07:18 PM

Did it to my old xB...Patience is the key my friend and buying the right glue...I have not tackled it yet on the xD...Looks great Chris!

TIKI 11-22-2010 06:30 AM

Thanks Tim
